Control vs Alzheimer's Disease: tau-total (CSF)
A large number of studies over the past 20 years have quantified tau protein in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with Alzheimer’s disease, consistently finding elevated levels of tau in AD patients. Meta-analysis of more than 200 comparisons showed that the levels of tau in the CSF of controls are less than half those in AD patients (effect size = 0.402, p < 0.0001).
