Dementia with Lewy Bodies vs Alzheimer's Disease: tau-p181 (CSF)
Meta-analysis showed that levels of tau-p181 in the cerebrospinal fluid of people with dementia with Lewy bodies are about half those in people with Alzheimer's disease (effect size = 0.56, p <0.0001). For comparison, the level of tau-p181 in the CSF of control subjects is also about half that of people with AD. A meta-analysis comparing levels of phosphorylated tau—without specifying which phospho-epitopes—in people with DLB and control subjects reported that phospho-tau is elevated in the CSF of patients (van Harten et al., 2011).
