Multiple System Atrophy vs Alzheimer's Disease: Aβ42 (CSF)
Levels of Aβ42 in the cerebrospinal fluid were about 50 percent higher in people with multiple system atrophy than people with Alzheimer's disease (effect size = 1.55, p <0.0001). For comparison, the level of Aβ42 in the CSF of control subjects is nearly double that of AD patients. In a published meta-analysis, CSF Aβ42 was reported to be lower in MSA patients than in controls (Cong et al., 2020).
