This, and other important work in a similar vein, suggests that "Alzheimerization" of brain occurs at least a decade prior to occurrence of symptoms. If clinically practical early markers for this process can be discovered, it would enable the identification of individuals who could be targeted for prevention strategies. Furthermore, if the changes can be measured longitudinally, mitigation of marker progression over time may serve as a practical surrogate marker for preventive intervention trials.
