Description
The Tartaglia Lab is seeking a highly motivated and energetic postdoctoral research fellow to start summer 2025 to support research efforts aimed at deciphering the molecular mechanism of neuroinflammation in dementia, and developing novel dementia biomarkers. The lab is located in the Tanz Centre for Research in Neurodegenerative Diseases and utilizes a multimodal approach that includes both imaging and biofluids for biomarker discovery to facilitate early detection of neurodegenerative diseases with a focus on frontotemporal dementia. The candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team as part of the CRND and Krembil Brain Institute, which brings together world-class researchers and clinicians whose mission is understanding of brain diseases with the ultimate goal of developing and translating new treatments for neurological and psychiatric diseases.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform laboratory experiments for analysis of biomarkers of neurodegeneration and inflammation using various assays (e.g., antibody-based assays such as ELISA and electrochemiluminescence, single-molecule arrays, determination of total protein/protein concentration, enzyme activity assays, cell-based assays, quantitative PCR)
- Perform technical tasks in the conduct of in vivo research studies.
- Assist in processing of biofluid samples for analysis
- Prepare, collect, and record research data and specimens in compliance with applicable regulations and SOPs
- Able to troubleshoot effectively and solve scientific problems with moderate supervision
- Able to find, read, and understand relevant scientific literature
- Contribute to general laboratory maintenance, including ordering supplies and materials needed for research
- Analyze data, maintain a detailed research record, and draw conclusions regarding presented material and nature of work
- Attend laboratory meetings, present data, and participates in discussions
- Co-author research publications and presents research at conferences
- Maintains the physical environment of the lab and a safe research environment
- Assist in the training and mentoring of other laboratory personnel, such as graduate students and technicians
- Experience with proteomics is an asset.
